breast feedingResearchers are figuring out why C-Sections and Breast Feed have lifelong effects on a baby’s health. It’s because of the bacteria they are exposed to through mothers milk and vaginal delivery. These bacteria live in the gut of the baby to help digest food and a bunch of other functions.  The following article by Alice Park published in Time magazine sites studies that show the role bacteria plays in risk of conditions ranging from asthma to autism, obesity and cancer.

The author of the article Alice Park’s says “As more studies hint that the richness and diversity of the microbial community can be an important indicator of a newborn’s health, taking stock of what’s in the diaper may actually make sense.”
