10 Tips for Having a Healthy and Safe Halloween in Northern Kentucky!…

HalloweenHalloween is a fun time of year for children and many adults. However, it is a time of year when we can over indulge in our favorite candy and a time when we are out walking around our neighborhoods well after dark. Here are some simple tips you and your family can follow to have a happy, healthy, and safe Halloween.

  1. Younger children should walk with an adult. Older children should walk and stay in a group.
  2. Use flashlights, glow sticks, or reflective tape to be seen at night.
  3. Do not go to any dark unlit houses.
  4. Do not go into a stranger’s house.
  5. Cross at crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers before you cross.
  6. Eat only factory wrapped candy. Stay away from any homemade treats given by strangers.
  7. Go through and check all candy before allowing your child to eat it.
  8. Encourage your child to save the candy and eat small amounts over a longer period of time.
  9. Be sure your child has a healthy dinner before trick-or-treating so they won’t have too much room for loads of candy.
  10. When going to buy your treats for your trick or treaters, think of healthier options that are economical to buy at the dollar store: small bags of nuts or raisins, washable tattoos, stickers, pencils, etc..

Pediatrics of About Pediatrics of Florence

We believe that children are more than just “little adults.” They have unique personalities, challenges, and life circumstances and we have made every effort to make our offices and care as “kid friendly” as possible. We have an aquatic theme in the waiting rooms (separated for sick and well children) as well as themed examination rooms. All of our physicians are Board Certified Pediatricians and members of the American Academy of Pediatrics and our nurse practitioners are all licensed Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and are available to see both well and sick children.
